The tall, dark-haired noble climbs the steep path outside his tower, with Navani and the others following. He has to keep resting, but not for very long -- he isn't supposed to be outside and it's his duty as a Knight Radiant to help. He's out in the Physical Realm for the first time in more than a day, needing a break. He's delighted to get out and stretch his legs. As they get closer to his tower, the spren around him begin to glow and vibrate, but in a different way than before. Dalinar has put out a call for the Knights that he trained, and they come. Most of them are younger than he, and are not as well-suited for the physical realm. Most are already tired after their battle in the fifth dimension and are relieved at his summons. They don't know how he uses Stormlight without taking any himself, but he tells them not to concern themselves with his powers. They only know what the knights always knew: that Dalinar is their leader and they answer to him, not to each other. They receive new armor and weapons to go up against the Unmade, and Dalinar gives them their orders. There's only a small handful who won't be going up. The majority will. The enormous number of Knights that he has gathered is impressive. Navani kneels in the dirt and bows her head. Dalinar smiles and tells her she looks beautiful. She looks up, blushing, and wipes the dirt off.
Shallan goes to a market to try to find a spren to draw more complex images, but is discouraged by the crowds and the lack of more talented spren. She encounters a woman who claims to be a cannyman, who arranges for Shallan to be employed by the spren of Amar. She notices that Shallan is using her training as a mask. Shallan asks what she plans to draw, and she offers to help, saying she has spent her whole life studying the art. Shallan asks what a cannyman is and the woman says that they are like magicians, using the Spren to create structures like buildings, bridges, and the like. They are able to be anywhere in the world and create things where there would otherwise be none. Shallan decides to draw a man running up a hill while an urchin tries to trip him. The woman tells her that it will take a lot of work to get enough Stormlight to make such a complex drawing. 3d9ccd7d82
